How it generally works

Cyber offences are dealt with under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

Complaints can be filed with the local police, the cyber cell, or online through the national cyber crime reporting portal; in financial fraud, reporting quickly — including to the national helpline 1930 — can help freeze the money.

Keeping screenshots, transaction records and messages is important for investigation.
